Alvidar is one of those weight loss products that was not actually formulated just for weight loss. It is actually a thyroid supplement to help those with low thyroid secretion. This condition is known as hypothyroidism and has many side effects. One of the most well-known side effects is weight gain. This product claims to be able to treat hypothyroidism in order to help you regain control of your weight. It is aimed at supplementing your iodine in your diet and supporting other body systems. We see a few problems right off, but let’s break it down.

The Breakdown

The first thing you need to know is that hypothyroidism is only caused by iodine deficiencies in 3rd world countries. In the U.S and other developed countries many foods such as salt as supplemented with iodine. It is very rare to be deficient it that. So supplementing that even more in your diet can actually cause you to have too much, and can cause a condition called hyperthyroidism. Many of these ingredients contain iodine, and are designed to help support the body systems when thyroid production is low. However, if you don’t actually have hypothyroidism you could be doing some damage to yourself.

We do not recommend this product for weight loss, or to treat hypothyroidism. If you are gaining weight unexpectedly, or if you think it is a symptom of a bigger problem then you need to see your doctor. Taking pills like this are not going to fix the problem, and may actually make it worse.
